Today, as you might have known, is the last Math Monday blog post. It has been very rewarding helping you with the best I can during math. To conclude our Math Mondays blog post, I am going to write about how Math has helped me throughtout the year. Math helps everyone with almost anything. Math almost always has to do with Science. You can use Math for soluving your hypohesis for Science. You can also use Math STEM jobs. It also works for drafting or construtiong a building. I mainly use Math for Science to hep me calculate problems.
What do you use Math for? Do you use it for Science like me, or maybe you use it to calucualte how long you can hold your breath? Math has a lot of uses for many things. Todays blog post will be about the most challenging thing in Math. For me the most challenging thing in math was combining m=like terms. For those of you who don't know what this is, it is a Math problem that requires you to add and subtract numbers with the same variable For example a problem could possibly look like this, 3x+2y+4x. In this case you would add all of the numbers that have the variable of x and y. So the new problem would look like 7x+2y. I got 7, because I added the 3 and the 4. I left the 2y alone, because nothing could add with it that has a variable of y.
I finally had the nerves to go and ask my teacher for help. He was more that happy to help me. He showed me how to solve more complex problems that the one that is for example. He showed me how to solve problems that looked like this: 3y+4x-12y-7y. At first, I was worried that I would not get the problem right, but then it turns out that I was right. This topic was hard for me at first, but now it is one of the most easiest topics!
Todays blog will be about the similarities of Science and Math.These two subjects are very alike, because you need Math to help solve the hypothesis of Science. For example, how are you going to solve an equation when Math is not around? Math also needs Science , because how are we going to know what equations to use if we do not have science Science and Math also kind of go together. What ever you are learning in Math kind of connects with what you are learning in Science. A great term to combine these two is Geometry and Physics.
This is a very great deal, because the two subjects can not function without each other. It is almost like they are a couple. If you really think about it, they have a lot of simularities. They both have an equation and a question to follow. The equation for Science may if you add 1/2 cup of foaming powder to a cup of water how many cups of foaming powder do you need for 173 cups? Todays blog is going to be about negative numbers. Negative numbers are numbers on the left side of a number line. Some people say that they are real negative numbers on the number line. In other words some say that you own -5 dollars to that person instead of owing 5 dollars. This is wrong because you don't owe -5 dollars there is not a -5 dollar bill in the world. People don't say this because it sounds weird. Negative number are mainly used in math. For example the most common way of using them is for a math problem. For example, -5+2. The negative always stays negative. To solve this problem you would need to use a number line with negative and positive numbers.
I hope that you understand the difference with using negative numbers on a number line and how to say it. This can be tricky, but it will work out in the end. Just remember you don't owe -5 dollars, you just owe 5. It is better to know what how much you owe someone. I remember learning this in fifth grade. I really like this lesson, because it is very easy to understand. This topic is like the topic integers. It is basically the same thing. I also hope that you know what intergers are! In Todays blog, I will be explaining how to solve 2x-7=15. The first step is to isolate the variable By that I mean to add 7 into 15. This would add up to 22. If you are asking why you have to add, well this is because if the sign right next to the variable is positive than you subtract, however if it is negative than you add. Once the first step is done all you have left is 2x=22. From this point, it is really easy. All you need to do is divide 2 by 22. The answer is 11. The same thing goes with the +/- deal. If the sign is multiplication then you divide and the other way around. This is simply all you have to do for a problem like this one.
I hope that you have learned a lot about my blog, and that you will refer back to this when you have a problem like this. Just remember that multiplication and division rule. It is fairly simple if you show your work and follow these steps. If you do not know or forget which step to do first follow the GEMS rule. GEMS stands for grouping exponents multiplication/division, and subtraction/addition. This is what we learned awhile back in 5th grade, so this should be easy.

I do not know if you re-call, but last week I blogged to you about turning a decimal into a fraction, well this blog is about the opposite, turning a fraction into a decimal It is very simple. I learned this a long time ago; probably in fourth grade. The first step that you do is take your fraction and divide the numerator into the denominator It is very easy for example: 2/4. I would divide 2 by four and get 0.5. Guess what! That is your answer You are finished, however it might take you longer to divide a huge number like 1235/2345. This is one of my favorite topic in math, because it is not that hard.

Just remember, the top one is the numerator and the bottom one is the denominator This is kind of hard to remember, but a helpful way to earn this is prberably thinking about November, December, because we all know November goes before December. This blog will tell you two of my favorite ways to turn a decimal into a fraction. The first way is to put a on under the decimal then fill the rest of the numbers into 0. For example: .775 turns into 775/1000. That is all you have to do. I prefere this way bettre that any other way. The next way is to put zeros afterall the numbers, but make sure to put an extra one. For example: .345 turns into 345/1000. Notice that instead of putting three zeros, I put four. This makes more sense than having 345/100. Another example: .10 = 100. These two way are the same, but like I saud before I prefer the first way more better. If you have another way of turning decimals into a fraction, please let me know!

Todays blog prompt is which one would I use ratio or percentage to charge someone if they came to my restaurant. First of all, I do not own a restaurant. This is just asking, which one would I pick. I would choose percentage to charge my customers, because it is more easier to understand rather than a ratio. I like percentage, because it is very straight forward other than ratio. It also makes a discount look great. If you think about it would you like to see that you saved 50% or 5:10.
I think it looks more better as a percent, that way I know what or how much percent I am being charged.

Do you know how to graph an equation once you have the equation. Say you have an equation like y=mx+b. The first thing you need to do is make your graph. Once you have made your graph, everything will be easier to plot. The first thing you need to do is plug in your numbers to the equation above. Lets say that once you plug in the numbers, you get y= 3/4x + 5. Once you have your equation plugged in, you need to find the y-intercept. To find the y-intercept, all you need to do is look at the number which replaces the letter b in your equation in this case, it is positive five. Since it is a positive number you need to plot it on the positive side of the y-intercept. Once this is plotted, you need to plot the fraction part of the equation, in this case 3/4. To plot it, you need to go to the positive five, go up three, and since the 4 is positive go to the right four times. Once this is there, make a point where it stopped. There you go, your equation is complete.

Do you know how to plot an equation with slope in it. It is very easy. Lets say that you have an equation like y=3/4 + 5. First before you can plot it, you need to make a graph. Once you make a reasonable graph, you need to plot the y-intercept. In this case, the y-intercept is 5. All you need to do is put a dot on the positive five on the y-axis. Once you do, from that point go up three and over four. Why use these numbers? Well, you use these numbers, because that is the fraction that you are using in the equation. The numerator always goes up even if there is no more numbers on the number line. The denominator always goes to the right or the left it depends if the number is positive or negative Once you have the points, you can connect them and find the slope.
